The ILO’s Bureau for Workers ‘Activities (ILO-ACTRAV) will hold an international Symposium in Geneva from 15th to 17th December to discuss Decent Work in Global Supply Chains.
Approximately one in five workers are estimated to work in global supply chains (GSCs), according to the World Employment Social Outlook (WESO) report 2015.
Today, GSCs pose several challenges to the existence of trade unions and the respect of workers’ rights. The main objective of the Symposium is to promote best practices on labour relations and protect workers ‘rights in GCSs.
Some 100 trade union representatives, senior ILO officials and experts from Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Arab regions will attend the symposium to discuss and agree on how best to promote Decent work in the Global Supply Chains . High-Profile participants include the General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Sharan Burrow, Seniors ILO Officials and the President of the French Trade Union Platform on Enterprises Social Responsibility (ESR), Pierre Yves Chanu.
