International Day of Older Persons: ILO to issue a policy paper on pensions

GENEVA – On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons – marked on 1 October -- the International Labour Organization (ILO) is to launch a new policy paper entitled “Social Protection for older persons: Key policy trends and statistics.”

Based on research conducted for the ILO’s World Social Protection Report 2014/15, the paper looks at pension systems in 178 countries. It especially reviews income security and the right to retire for older women and men all over the world.

A message by ILO Director-General Guy Ryder will also be issued on that day.

Both the message and the policy paper will be made available to all journalists on Tuesday, 30 September. There will be no embargo.
