Informative Seminar for Teachers and School Managers on Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture

On 15 September 2017 an information building seminar was held in Şanlıurfa on the monitoring mechanism for child labour in agriculture. The event was organized jointly by the International Labour Organization, Ministry of Labour and Social Security and Şanlıurfa Directorate of National Education, and participated by school managers, teachers and members of provincial/district Boards for Monitoring Seasonal Agricultural Workers within the period of in-service training.


The meeting was a part of the project “An Integrated Model for the Elimination of Worst Forms of Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture in Hazelnut Harvesting in Turkey” being implemented by the International Labour Organization and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. The opening speech of the meeting was delivered by Mr. Ziya Suluyer, Deputy Director of Provincial Directorate of National Education in Şanlıurfa.


During the meeting organized to promote monitoring mechanism related to child labour in seasonal agriculture developed under the project and to strengthen the enforcement of relevant national legislation, the ILO Office in Turkey, Ministry of Labour and Social Security and representatives of Şanlıurfa Provincial Directorate of National Education shared information about activities carried out at national and local level. The education and field coordinators of the project supplied information concerning the strategic intervention model developed under the project, profiles of children and families as the target group and monitoring activities carried out. The meeting ended with open discussion of ideas on ensuring the sustainability of activities through the enforcement of existing legislation.
