Information Meeting Held for Teachers on Combating Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture
Training sessions launched for the Online Learning Modules on Combating Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture, developed by the ILO and the FAO.

ANKARA (ILO News) - The training sessions of the “Online Learning Modules on Combating Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture”, developed by the United Nations (UN) International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), started the first training for teachers.
The online trainings organized within the scope of the project “An Integrated Model for the Elimination of Worst Forms of Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture in Hazelnut Agriculture in Türkiye” and the project “Elimination of Worst Forms of Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture in Hazelnut Harvesting in Türkiye” carried out by the ILO Office for Türkiye within the scope of the Program on the Elimination of Child Labour were attended by teachers from eight provinces in which the projects are being implemented. The learning modules provide comprehensive information about the concept of child labour, the causes and consequences of child labour, statistical information about the extent of child labour in Türkiye and around the world, child labour in seasonal agriculture and the efforts to combat child labour to teachers working in the project provinces who come into contact with the children of seasonal agricultural worker families, with the ultimate goal being to increase their knowledge and to raise awareness of the issue.
A total of eight online meetings were held between 15–22 November, 2023 with the participation of 223 teachers (66 from Ordu, 7 from Giresun, 41 from Samsun, 23 from Trabzon, 28 from Zonguldak, 21 from Düzce, 15 from Sakarya and 22 from Şanlıurfa), and were opened by ILO Consultants Bürge Akbulut and Attorney Seda Akço, who provided information about the training modules targeting the prevention of child labour in seasonal agriculture, and issued resources and information notes to the participants. The sessions continued with the interactive module “Introduction to Child Labour in Agriculture”. The interactive nature of the training sessions was assured through requests for the opinions of the participants, and the teachers on the whole provided positive feedback on the scope and purpose of the programme.
In 2022, an additional study was carried out by the Türkiye offices of the ILO and FAO with a view to developing Türkiye specific content, leading to the addition of seven further resources to the module.
The online introductory meetings and training sessions will continue to be applied to different target groups, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the ILO.

About the Training Module
In 2019, the FAO e-learning Academy, which develops content in line with Goal 4 “Quality Education” of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, prepared seven comprehensive online modules on the subject of the prevention of child labour in agriculture, in cooperation with the ILO.In 2022, an additional study was carried out by the Türkiye offices of the ILO and FAO with a view to developing Türkiye specific content, leading to the addition of seven further resources to the module.
