ILO Türkiye provides training support for fair and safe working conditions in delivery sector
The training focused on occupational health and safety and the legal status of delivery workers, aiming to support access to fundamental rights for motorcycle couriers.

ANKARA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) organized a training session on fundamental labour rights for trade unions and civil society organizations representing workers in the delivery sector. The event aimed to raise awareness and build capacity regarding occupational health and safety and the legal status of platform-based delivery workers.
The training was held as part of the project “Strengthening Social Partners and Civil Society Capacities on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work” implemented by the ILO and supported by the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye. In his opening remarks, ILO Senior Project Coordinator Emre Dönmez provided information on the ILO’s areas of work and the Project.
During the morning sessions, Occupational Safety Specialist Deniz İpek addressed the occupational health and safety challenges faced by workers in the delivery sector. İpek shared sector-specific risks and preventive measures with participants.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in open discussion sessions where they voiced the challenges they face and proposed potential solutions. Key issues raised included the self-employed courier model and worker status, freedom of association, job security, and occupational health and safety.
In an online presentation, Dr. Hazal Tolu Yılmaz from Galatasaray University Faculty of Law evaluated the legal status of platform workers in Türkiye.
In line with the Decent Work Agenda for all, including those in non-standard forms of employment, the ILO continues to support the establishment of fair and safe working conditions. This includes working with governments, employers, workers, and their representatives as digital platform-based jobs become more widespread.
