ILO supported vulnerable groups thru education, employment & training in Pakistan

ILO organized a national event to showcase its project "Empowering vulnerable groups through Employment, Education and Training" on 10 December 2013.

ISLAMABAD (ILO News) - The event featured dialogue sessions, plenary discussion and information sharing segments. Highlights of the project were shared through a video documentary featuring the impact the project has created on the lives of people through ensuring 'Inclusion', 'Equality' and 'Empowerment'.

Key interventions of the project included:
  1. Mainstream entrepreneurship and business startup education programs for Pakistani youth in training institutes
  2. National capacity enhancement to promote decent work, implement employable skills programs and labour market information and analysis
  3. Education and legal empowerment of poor and vulnerable groups focusing on forced and bounded labour and child labour.
  4. Prevention and awareness raising on polio and communicable diseases
  5. Mainstreaming decent work in informal economy within value chains
The key speakers Ms Neetu Lamba, Officer in charge ILO Pakistan, representative from RC office Mr Zarar khan and representative from PWF Mr Raja Waqar Hussain Bhatti presented their views about the project experience stressing the need to build on the achievements and exploring synergies and partnerships for sustainability of various initiatives. Representative from the cooperate sector were also invited to share their experience particularly focusing on their work on mainstreaming person with Disabilities.

Various knowledge products including the documentaries and research publications were also put on display. The representatives of private and public sector organizations and civil society attended the event.
The products prepared by ‘workers with disabilities’ were also showcased on the occasion.

The dialogue session explored the partnership and experience of various implementing partners including Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority, Pakistan Workers Federation, Department of Labour, Employees Social Security Institutions and Directorate General for Special Education at Federal and Provincial levels.

The participants and speakers appreciated ILO technical support to promote Education, Employment and Training for vulnerable groups thus reducing their vulnerabilities.
