The ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean launched two new publications in December 2008 which are available gratis online.
Caribbean Digest of Legislation on Termination of Employment The publication entitled “Caribbean Digest of Legislation on Termination of Employment” deals with Laws that pertain to termination of employment and plays an integral role in the protection of Caribbean workers in the face of global and regional economic changes. The Digest provides a regional overview of legislation on termination of employment in ILO’s member States of the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. Dealing exclusively with employees in the private sector, the Digest is a useful resource for lawyers, government officials, employers' and workers' organizations. It comes at a time when the Caribbean region is deepening the regional integration process through the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, involving the free movement of labour across borders and when the region is beginning to experience the effects of the global economic crisis.
A Handbook for Peer Educators: Addressing HIV/AIDS in the workplace The second publication entitled “A Handbook for Peer Educators - Addressing HIV/AIDS in the workplace” was developed to support ongoing HIV/AIDS workplace education activities in Trinidad and Tobago. It was one of the outputs of the ILO HIV/AIDS Workplace Education Programme for Trinidad and Tobago (2006-2008), funded by the United States Department of Labor. The programme trained 180 persons from 12 companies in six sectors, as peer educators. The handbook includes a compact disc with Powerpoint presentations to support training.
