The 5th Regional Committee Meeting of the ILO Staff Union for the African Region took place from 12-16 May 2014 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The meeting – hosted by the Chairperson of the SU Section, Addis Ababa - was attended by staff representatives from each office in Africa, the Africa titular Member, the Chairperson of the ILO Staff Union Committee, the Africa Substitute member from HQ, and the Staff Union Committee legal adviser.
Discussions included the on-going field structure review in the ILO, health, safety and security in field and technical cooperation projects as well as sharing collective bargaining techniques.
“The ongoing reform processes in the ILO should make us even better equipped to respond to the needs of our constituents. (…) staff mobility, rights and entitlements, job security and recruitment practices are also matters that you will be debating this week. Staff members across the region count on you to be their ‘voice’”, stated Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon, ILO Chief – Regional Programming Unit for Africa, on behalf of the ILO Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Africa, Aeneas Chuma.
The five-day meeting will adopt new recommendations as a way forward for the Africa region.
