ILO to release new child labour estimates

A report containing the latest global and regional estimates of child labour will be launched in Bangkok on Monday 23 September 2013 by the ILO. The report, "Marking progress against child labour: Global estimates and trends 2000-2012", provides the most recent and wide-ranging assessment currently available on the extent of child labour, trends, and the measures need to make progress towards ending it.

BANGKOK (ILO News) – A report containing the latest global and regional estimates of child labour will be launched in Bangkok on Monday 23 September 2013 by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The report, "Marking progress against child labour: Global estimates and trends 2000-2012", provides the most recent and wide-ranging assessment currently available on the extent of child labour, trends, and the measures need to make progress towards ending it.

The ILO, the UN specialised agency dealing with work and work-related issues, has been measuring global progress on the reduction of child labour since 2000. This report is the fourth round of child labour estimates. The ILO has set a global target of eliminating all the worst forms of child labour by 2016.

Press conference details

A press conference highlighting developments, figures and recommendations relating to child labour in Asia Pacific (which hosts the largest number of child labourers in the world) will be held in Bangkok on Monday 23 September at 16.00 hours at Studio R9, 5th floor, Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel, Tel. 662 125 5000 (BTS: Chidlom). The report will be presented by Ms Simrin Singh, ILO Senior Specialist on Child Labour for East and South-East Asia and the Pacific.

The report and all associated media and information materials are under embargo and not for publication, broadcast or quotation before 16.00 hours Bangkok time (09.00 GMT) on Monday, 23 September. Embargoed electronic copies of the report, executive summary and press release can be made available to journalists on request from Friday 20 September.
