ILO to release new analysis on "Employment and informality in Latin America and the Caribbean: An insufficient and uneven recovery"

7 September, 2021 (Lima, Peru) - The International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Latin America and the Caribbean will present a new technical note that addresses how the COVID-19 recovery is affecting regional labour markets, which were severely affected by the crisis. The launch will take place during a press conference on Wednesday, 8 September at 10am Lima time / 11am Eastern Caribbean time.

The ILO analysis, which assesses both the quantitative and qualitative employment data collected from around the region in 2021, will be presented to the media by Vinícius Pinheiro, ILO Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, and by Roxana Maurizio, ILO Regional Specialist in Labour Economics and lead author of the publication.

Titled, “Employment and informality in Latin America and the Caribbean: An insufficient and uneven recovery”, the technical note is part of the ILO Labour Overview in Times of COVID-19 Series, which explores the unprecedented labour crisis in the region, as well as the options for recovery in the world of work.

This new study features some of the most recent regional data on employment, with a special focus on the dynamics of informal employment from the start of the pandemic until the beginning of 2021.
