ILO provides career coaching for youth in Egypt in partnership with the private sector

Cairo, Egypt (ILO News)- On Friday 29th July 2022, the ILO partnered with iCareer and OBM Education to conduct “Career Coaching Circles” targeting high school students and youth. The activity was part of OBM Education’s “Bridge Your Future (BYF)” event, which is the largest summit for pre-university students in Egypt, and considered a one-stop-shop for high school students in search for viable career options relevant to the current and future world of work.
The career coaching circles are the first of their kind in Egypt, aiming to provide career insight and advice to high school students using a digitalized career assessment tool. With the support of a career coach, the assessment tool provides an analysis of the student’s career options based on their interests and background.
The digitalized career assessment tool was developed by iCareer, a leading career advisory company in Egypt who supplemented the tool at the BYF event with expert career coaches to provide support to over 100 high school students to find their best suited careers. The tool works by analyzing the student’s interest against 400 career options while the career coaches advise students on relevant careers and the future of work.
Rawan Khaled, a 17 year-old final year high school student highlighted how being part of the career coaching circles made her confident about her career choice. “The event’s sessions such as: access to the future, dream chasing and women’s work-in were very motivational for me, and the career coaching circle made me more confident than ever to be a psychologist and reaffirmed my thoughts and ideas about this field ”, said Rawan.
The support for this activity comes under the ILO-led Higher Education for Life and Work (HELW) project, funded by the United Kingdom.
