ILO News (Ethiopia): ILO organized a half-day training workshop on “Enterprise Dialogue for Harmonious Industrial Relations” in Mekelle on 10 August 2016. The objective of the training was to enhance mangers’ knowledge on labour administration and employment relationship in Ethiopia and the link between industrial relations and productivity. Participants in the training include managers from Alemeda, Maa Garment Factory and representatives of Ethiopian Employer Federation (EEF)Tigray Branch Office.
A similar training was organized in the Ethiopian capital city, Addis Ababa for factory managers from Ayka Addis, Arvind, BeConnected, Concept, Jay Jay textile and garment factories. The training will help them foster healthy industrial relation at the enterprise level which is key create a virtuous cycle by translating improvements in productivity and competitiveness into better working conditions.
Background
The project “Improving Industrial Relation for Decent work and Sustainable Textile and Garment Industry in Ethiopia” aims to contribute to the development of socially sustainable textile and garment industry in line with Ethiopia’s Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II). For this purpose, the project will work at national, regional and factory levels to improve industrial relations, working conditions and productivity.
At national level, the project facilitate social dialogue among multiple stakeholders, under the leadership of tripartite partners in developing common vision and strategies to make Ethiopia an African hub of socially responsible production of garments for both global and domestic markets.
