ILO presents progress in digitalization to the Unitary Workers’ Front to strengthen social protection in Ecuador

Quito (ILO News) – The ILO presented to Ecuador’s trade union confederations, gathered under the Unitary Workers’ Front (FUT), the results of the “Innovating for Equality” project.

Implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Municipality of Quito, the initiative demonstrated that digitalization can be a key tool to modernize social services, improve efficiency, and expand coverage. Through the strategic use of data and technological solutions, the Municipality is better equipped to ensure more equitable and timely access for vulnerable populations, while reducing gaps and strengthening institutional capacity to respond to their needs.

This project confirms that digital transformation is not an end in itself, but rather a tool to ensure that more people can effectively exercise their rights. Dialogue with trade unions is essential to scale up these results across the country

For his part, Edwin Bedoya, President of the FUT and CEDOCUT, emphasized that “digitalization is, without a doubt, the way to do things today.”

As a trade union movement, we would like this experience to be replicated in other municipalities of the country. Digitalization can and must be used to protect workers and the most excluded sectors

The organizations affiliated with the FUT, including CEDOCUT, CEOSL, UGTE, and UNE, agreed that the lessons from “Innovating for Equality” open opportunities to replicate and strengthen digital transformation for the benefit of Ecuadorian society.
