On 09 March 2023, Ms Maria Victoria Giulietti, ILO Senior Specialist, Employers’ Activities, ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, participated at the B20-IOE One Global Women Empowerment (OGWE) Conference. The objective of the virtual conference was to spotlight, debate and synergize government-led/backed initiatives from different parts of the world that are focused on empowering women in business and women in the workplace.
During the ILO’s intervention, Ms. Giulietti focused on the experiences of the Latin-America and Caribbean Businesswomen Network in promoting gender equality and playing a major role in strengthening women's economic empowerment and leadership in Latin America and the Caribbean. “We need more collective and collaborative actions like those pursued by the OGWE to achieve meaningful impact and results on Women Empowerment and to amplify the voices of women in business”, she stated. She also highlighted the progress made by the Network which began in 2020 within the framework of the Win-Win: Gender Equality Means Good Business programme jointly implemented by the ILO and UN Women, with funding from the European Union. The programme supported employers' organizations, businesses, and workers in six target countries in the Americas: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Uruguay.
The discussions served as a platform for reflection and addressing challenges and key ingredients to the success and engagement of the Latin America and Caribbean Businesswomen Network. Ms. Giulietti underscored the importance to the Tone of the top, “due to the strong commitment and conviction of the ACT/EMP Director, Deborah Frace, as well as the unconditional support of the ILO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, the IOE's General Secretary, Roberto Suarez and the IOE-ILO coordinator, Maria Anzorreguy, who were the roots that enable the creation of this Network”. She also applauded the joint work and effort of South Cone, Central and Latin America and the Caribbean ACT/EMP Specialists and the strong commitment, passion and conviction of the businesswomen who turned the COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity to thrive by working together to achieve a common purpose.
