ILO to participate in the third Global Conference on child labour in Brasilia

The Conference will bring together representatives from government, social partners, civil society, regional and international organizations to share policies and experiences in the global fight against child labour.
The Conference will take place a few weeks after the ILO’s International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) released new figures showing a sharp decrease in child labour across the world. However, the report also said that the objective of eliminating the worst forms of child labour by 2016 will not be met at the current pace.
The Conference – organized by the Brazilian Government – will be an opportunity to reflect on the progress made since the previous Global Conference was held in The Hague in 2010, and to discuss ways to accelerate global efforts against child labour – especially its worst forms.
ILO Director-General Guy Ryder will open the conference together with Brazil’s President H.E. Ms Dilma Rousseff, on Tuesday 8 October at 10:00 local time (BRT).
On Wednesday October 9 the ILO will host a Twitter question and answer session live at the conference on the issue of child labour at 15:30 GMT. Questions can be tweeted to @ILO in English, French and Spanish, using the official hashtag #NOchildlabour.
On the last day of the Conference, the ILO will also announce its Red Card to Child Labour campaign. This major worldwide advocacy campaign has already received the support of artists and activists, including Tim Roth and many others.
The campaign will be relayed on ILO social media channels including Twitter and Facebook. All tweets related to the Conference will use the hashtag #NOchildlabour. Tweets and Facebook hashtags related to the Red Card to child labour campaign use #RedCard to #ChildLabour.
