ILO organizes training of trainers on the cooperative business model towards increasing economic opportunities in the fishery sector in Mauritania
The ToT workshop was conducted to strengthen the capacity of local institutions to support the organization of fishermen groups including cooperatives and other businesses for value-creation and marketing of fish products.
PROMOPECHE aims to contribute to regional stability and better management of migration by increasing economic opportunities for young people in the artisanal fishing sector in the coastal regions of Nouakchott and Nouadhibou. In view of the effectiveness of its actions and for the sake of sustainability of its intervention, the project works in synergy with public and parastatal organizations in charge of employment and vocational training while ensuring the creation of alliances between these and the private sector (i.e. local support organizations providing technical assistance to groups of economic actors and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises).
The ToT was carried out as part of the project’s strategy to strengthen the capacity of local business development service (BDS) providers to allow them in turn to support the organization of fishermen groups including cooperatives, retailers and processors, wholesalers and distributors for value-creation and marketing of fish products.
