ILO to launch global report on domestic workers
A new report on the conditions of domestic workers worldwide will be launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Wednesday, 9 January 2013 at 17:00 Bangkok Time (10:00 GMT).

BANGKOK (ILO News) - A new report on the conditions of domestic workers worldwide will be launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Wednesday, 9 January 2013 at 17:00 Bangkok Time (10:00 GMT).
The new study, entitled “Domestic workers across the world: Global and regional statistics and the extent of legal protection“, attempts to capture the size of the domestic work sector, working conditions and the extent of legal protection enjoyed by domestic workers worldwide. It includes global and regional statistics, and highlights the widespread exclusion of domestic workers from basic labour protection legislation in Asia and the Pacific as well as in other regions.
The ILO is the United Nations specialized agency that deals with work and work-place related issues.
The report, as well as all associated material and information are under strict embargo until 10:00 GMT (17:00 Bangkok Time) on Wednesday, 9 January 2013. Embargoed electronic copies of the report, the executive summary and some associated media materials can be made available to recognized media on request. Interviews with ILO experts in Asia, or at the ILO’s Geneva headquarters can also be scheduled.
A press conference on the report will be organized at the ILO’s headquarters in Geneva at 11:00 local time on Wednesday 9 January. Video coverage of the press conference, a video news release, as well as video interviews with the authors of the report can be made available via the ILO studio and ISDN equipment in Geneva.
