ILO to launch the first World Social Security Report

GENEVA (ILO News) – The International Labour Office (ILO) is to launch the “World Social Security Report 2010-2011: Providing coverage in times of crisis and beyond” on 16 November, 2010.

The report is the first in a series to be published every two years and presents a broad overview of the crucial role of social security in reducing the impact of economic crises. In addition, it also examines the gaps in access to social security programmes in areas such as health care, pensions, social assistance, and unemployment benefits.

Among its key findings are that most of the world’s working age population and their families lack effective access to comprehensive social protection systems, and less than a third have employment accident insurance.

Electronic copies of the report (including an executive summary) will be available to media on request, under embargo for publication or broadcast on or after 15:00 GMT on Tuesday, 16 November.
