ILO joins meeting of G7 Employment Working Group under Canada’s Presidency

OTTAWA/GATINEAU – From 8-9 October 2025, the International Labour Organization (ILO) participated in the first in-person meeting of the G7 Employment Working Group (EWG) under Canada’s Presidency,

The discussions were structured around three priority themes, reflecting the Canadian presidency's focus on the profound labor market transformations underway:

• Ensuring workforce resilience amid economic uncertainty and instability
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the labor market
• Maximizing labor force participation

Susan Hayter, Senior Adviser to the ILO's Deputy Director-General, delivered a presentation, together with the OECD, of the draft Compendium of Best Practices for the Human-Centred Adoption of Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy AI in the World of Work, showcasing practical guidance for ensuring that technological change benefits workers and employers alike.

This document was prepared based on questionnaires from all G7 members and supports the G7 Leaders’ Statement on AI for Prosperity, adopted in Kananaskis in June 2025, which emphasized the need to build resilient future workforces and prepare workers for transitions related to artificial intelligence (AI).

The ILO also presented a second paper prepared for the G7 EWG on Maximizing Labour Force Participation: Targeted measures to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the labour market. The paper highlights targeted measures and policies across G7 countries that promote employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and emphasizes the importance of mainstreaming disability inclusion across all labour market policies. As an outcome of the discussion, Canada announced its intention to convene a virtual meeting of experts on disability-disaggregated statistics. The meeting will take place on 4 November 2025.
