ILO hosts training on disability inclusion and equality for UN India team

Delhi, INDIA (ILO News) - The United Nations in India recently signed a joint Non-Discrimination Statement on Employment of Persons with Disabilities. Through this commitment, 26 UN agencies pledged to promote inclusivity, protect human rights, and foster an equitable work environment for all persons with disabilities.
The Heads of Agencies and Human Resource Officers will be responsible for adhering to and operationalizing the non-discrimination statement.
To advance the agenda of disability inclusion, the ILO, in collaboration with the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRC), hosted a series of trainings and orientations for the Heads of UN Agencies in India, the Operations Management Team (OMT), Human Resource Officers, and Disability Focal Points from 23 - 26 September 2024.
The training for HoAs specifically addressed the barriers faced by persons with disabilities and identified actionable steps each organization can take to enhance the recruitment of persons with disabilities. Participants commended the training for its content and delivery.
Four training sessions were organized, and a total of 69 representatives from 19 agencies participated in these sessions.
The sessions were interactive and involved participatory learning, which enabled UN India colleagues to ideate and find solutions to the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the workplace and the field.
