ILO holds the third Project Advisory Meeting for the RDPP Research Partnership for Improved Livelihoods of Jordanians and Syrians
The partnership aims to arrive at an in-depth understanding of youth employment and livelihoods in Jordan through research to promote discussion around policy and strategy development.

Amman, Jordan (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO), with the financial support of the European Regional Development and Protection Programme for Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq (RDPP II), is implementing a research project to support the Jordanian government and national stakeholders in addressing the youth employment challenge and foster discussion around policies and strategies needed to enhance the livelihoods and employment opportunities available to young Syrians and Jordanians. The project is conducting five research papers that look into different areas impacting youth employment, namely green and digital transitions, platform economies, trade and informality, macroeconomic policies and school-to-work transition.
Young people in Jordan are facing multiple challenges that are impacting their employment and livelihood opportunities, at a time when the world of work is undergoing rapid changes and huge transformations. Adapting to this changing environment requires rapid, targeted and evidence-based strategies, policies and interventions that put the youth at the heart of the response strategy.
On December 1st, 2022, the ILO-RDPP Project Advisory Committee (PAC) met for the third time to discuss project progress and next steps. Further to the general update and discussion around the various research papers conducted under the project, the meeting allowed for a specifically in-depth discussion around the Employers’ School-to-Work Transition paper, the latter entailing both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis to better understand employers’ perspectives and their willingness or reluctance to employ young people in Jordan.
Moving forward, the findings and recommendations of the various studies commissioned under the project will be presented in a launch event to take place on the 13th of December 2022, at the St. Regis Hotel in Amman. It is hoped that the presented results will provide insights for improved youth-related policy formulation and implementation in the Kingdom.
