ILO holds seminar on trade unions’ human rights activities in Kazakhstan’s Mangistau region

On August 23-24 chairs and activists of shopfloor organizations of the Oil and Gas Workers’ Union gathered in Kazakhstan’s Mangistau region for a seminar devoted to trade unionists’ human rights activities. The event was organized by the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the ILO.
The chairman of the Mangistau trade union council, Abdulkarim Akhatov, unveiled the seminar.
ILO Moscow Senior Specialist in Workers’ Activities Sergeyus Glovackas told participants about the fundamental rights at work, the role of the ILO and its supervision mechanisms.
Participants discussed the role of trade unions in regulating social and labour relations in compliance with the Labour Code, prevention and settlement of labour disputes, occupational safety and health as well as employers’ responsibility for occupational injuries and diseases.
After the seminar all participants received skills development certificates.
