ILO at European Development Days
The ILO Office participated in the European Development Days, organized by the European Commission on 16 and 17 October 2012 in cooperation with development stakeholders.

The ILO participated in the European Development Days on 16 and 17 October 2012. Michel Cichon, Director of the ILO Social Security Department, presented the 2012 ILO Social Protection Floors Recommendation at the panel on social protection. He pointed out that many developing countries are taking initiatives or are announcing their interest in extending social protection coverage.
This is very relevant for the upcoming EU development cooperation programming. EU development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs referred to the 2012 EU Communication on social protection and development. French development cooperation Minister Pascal Canfin and ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow strongly supported concrete EU action on promoting social protection.
The ILO-Brussels Director Rudi Delarue participated in the panel on youth unemployment organized by Plan EU, with strong participation of youth. Youth and their organisations can be powerful ambassadors for decent employment and social inclusion perspectives for youth, he said. The ILO invited the EU and developing countries to use and implement the 2012 ILO call for action on youth employment.
