ILO, EU support Zambia’s skills development with ICT equipment

Lusaka, Zambia (ILO News) - The International Labour Organization (ILO), with support from the European Union, has handed over Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment worth about K 1 million to the Ministry of Technology and Science and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

The equipment was handed over on 19 May 2026 at the ILO offices under the EU-funded Skills Development for Increased Employability Programme (SDEP). It is expected to improve skills coordination, strengthen the Labour Market Information System, and support evidence-based planning.

ILO Country Office Director for Zambia and Malawi, Mr. Wellington Chibebe, said the support reflects a strong partnership aimed at building institutional capacity.

Mr. Chibebe added that the Ministry of Technology and Science and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security play key roles in coordinating skills development and linking training to labour market needs.

“This investment demonstrates our collective commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and supporting effective coordination and evidence-based decision-making in skills development,” he said.

Ministry of Technology and Science Permanent Secretary, Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu praised the ILO and the European Union for the donation and their continued partnership in skills development.

Ministry of Labour and Social Security Permanent Secretary, Mr. Zechariah Luhanga also welcomed the support, saying it will help the ministry continue promoting skills development that responds to industry needs.

The handover is part of wider efforts to improve employability for women and men and help young people gain skills for decent work and sustainable livelihoods.
