International Labour Standards
ILO discusses the application of International Labour Standards in the European Parliament
Corinne Vargha, Director of the International Labour Standards Department, presented the most recent findings by ILO supervisory bodies to the Committee on International Trade of the European Parliament.

Ms Vargha discussed the observations made by the Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations and the Conference Committee on the Application of Standards on a number of countries that have trade relations with the EU, including Bangladesh and Myanmar.
She welcomed the reference to international labour standards in EU free trade agreements and stressed the fruitful cooperation with the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission on the promotion of core labour standards in several countries.
Reflecting on the general discussion on Decent work in global supply chains held at the International Labour Conference last June, the Director mentioned that the ILO is currently developing an action programme to promote decent work in global supply chains, focussing on know-how dissemination, capacity building, effective advocacy for the ratification of fundamental labour standards and policy coherence among the many actors in the supply chains.
