ILO Director thanks youth from Glenview Complex

As a follow up to the visit of the Danish Minister of Trade and Development Cooperation, Mr Mogens Jensen, the DANIDA Grants Committee and a delegation of Danish journalists to Glenview Complex on 6 November 2014, the ILO Director, a.i, Ms Hopolang Phororo and the Skills project team visited the Glenview Complex on 14 November 2014. The visit was to thank the beneficiaries, District Implementing Committee, Provincial Implementing Committee, Glenview Complex Board and Management Committee for hosting the delegation from Denmark.

In her opening remarks, the District Administrator for Highfield district, Ms Tagarira expressed her sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, including the ILO to have warmly received the Danish Minister and the DANIDA Grants Committee at the Glenview Complex. “We hope to maintain this upward momentum with the improvement in project implementation and creation of more jobs for the youths”, she said.

The ILO Director a.i. while addressing the beneficiaries, members of the DIC and PIC, Glenview Complex Board and Management Committee members, and youth representatives, expressed her profound appreciation to them for successfully hosting the Danish Minister of Trade and Development Cooperation and the Danida Grants Committee.

“The ILO deemed it necessary to thank you all for sparing valuable time from your busy schedules to receive the visitors,” she said. “We are very proud of the great work that the Glenview Complex beneficiaries are doing to contribute towards creating employment and income generation opportunities for youth. The Danish delegation was duly impressed to witness the great work that you are doing on the ground. It is always very humbling when you meet the amazing beneficiaries and various committees, working as a team to make a difference in the lives of so many young people."

The Acting Chairperson of Glenview Complex Board said “we would like to express our gratitude to the ILO for facilitating the visit to this place by the Danish Minister and his delegation. The members of the Glenview Complex Board feel happy that the ILO has brought together all the relevant stakeholders to provide employable skills to the vulnerable youth that is creating jobs and hope for a better future. I must recognize that we made mistakes during implementation however we have learnt lessons from these mistakes and will do better next time. This is a meaningful youth project that has the potential to grow further and we are glad to be part of it”, concluded the Acting Chairperson.

The ILO Director, Ms Phororo and the Chief Technical Advisor, Mr Manzoor Khaliq presented the beneficiaries, as a token of appreciation with tools and equipment, which will improve the quality of their products and hopefully support their businesses to grow . The beneficiaries expressed their happiness to have hosted the Danish Minister, as well as the ILO team and termed this a significant milestone in the lives of young people, who are trying to create jobs for themselves and for others as entrepreneurs.
