ILO Director General on an official visit to Namibia 5-7 August 2018
Mr. Guy Ryder, The ILO Director General, has arrived in Namibia for a three day working visit at the invitation of the Government of Namibia.

Mr. Ryder has been on a roller-coaster visit of Southern Africa as he arrives in Namibia soon after attending the 4th summit of the BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa hosted by the Republic of South Africa; and another official visit to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
Mr. Ryder is expected to meet the Head of State, His Excellency Hage G. Geingob, the Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation, Honourable Erkki Nghimtina, as well as Cabinet Ministries, Employers and Workers’ representatives and Heads of UN Agencies. The key message from the DG is to express ILO’s readiness to assist Namibia meet its current and future developmental goals particularly in the area of mainstreaming employment and decent work in national plans and programmes.
The Director General will also hold a public lecture on the ‘Future of Work’ at the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management (NIPAM). Participants include academics from Namibia’s three universities, the private sector, civic organizations, youth and government officials.
As the ILO mandate is premised on human rights and social justice, Mr. Ryder will also be visiting informal economy operators in a local settlement to get a first-hand experience of the manifestation of inequalities and the challenges faced by communities living and working in poverty.
Mr. Ryder’s visit will culminate with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the new Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) for Namibia. The DWCP is the ILO’s programme of support to its member countries guided by national development plans- the National Development Plan 5 (NDP 5) and the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP) in the case of Namibia; and delivered within the framework of the United Nations Partnership Assistance Framework (UNPAF).
