ILO Director-General inaugurates ‘Social Dialogue’ meeting room in ILO building in Chile

Santiago (ILO News) - As part of an official visit to Chile, ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo inaugurated a new meeting room entitled ‘Social Dialogue’ at ILO headquarters on Tuesday.

On the occasion, the Director-General welcomed the initiative and highlighted the importance of the ILO actively supporting the exercise of social dialogue among its tripartite constituents.

The Director of the ILO Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America, Fabio Bertranou, also emphasized the importance of this new space: ‘we hope that this room will become a meeting point for our constituents to put into practice social dialogue as a valuable tool promoted by the ILO and that allows our societies to move forward building a better future of work’.

‘Social dialogue is not simply a concept, but a commitment to collaboration, mutual understanding and the search for joint solutions,’ he added.

After the inauguration, the ILO Director-General met with the ILO team in Chile to share some reflections on the importance of the ILO's work in the field and the relevance of initiatives currently being promoted by the ILO, such as the Global Coalition for Social Justice.
