ILO development cooperation projects and the world of work in Africa

MAHE (ILO News) – The Annual Convention of ILO Chief Technical Advisors (CTA) and Project Managers in the Africa Region was held from 5 to 7 October 2015 at the Seychelles under the facilitation of the International Training Centre (ITC-ILO).

Some 43 Chief Technical Advisors and National Project Coordinators attended the workshop designed to align project activities of the ILO within the UN Sustainable Development Agenda, deepen collaboration between projects across countries and sub-regions and increase the level of engagement of project managers in the resource mobilization efforts of ILO field offices.

“ILO has 200 active technical cooperation projects in Africa. We must invest in resource mobilization locally and internationally”, said Aeneas C. Chuma, ILO Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa.

The portfolio of ILO-facilitated Development Cooperation projects in Africa is firmly anchored under Goal 8 of the sustainable development framework (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Many projects also contribute to the achievement of SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 4 (education and skills), and SDGs 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

Development cooperation projects implemented in Africa are one of the main means of action to support ILO’s constituents in promoting decent work in the region.
