ILO country briefs from the Social and Solidarity Economy project in Asia

Social and Solidarity Economy remains relatively a new concept in Asia and the Pacific region, and major questions remain regarding its definition, measurement, size, impact, potential, and limits.

To enhance the understanding on the SSE in the region, the ILO and Seoul National University (SNU) carried out research to map the organizational landscape of SSE in six countries in Asia (Republic of Korea, Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines).

This series of briefs presents the SSE landscape for six countries in Asia, policy challenges and preliminary pathways for strengthening SSE in the region. The research is part of the ILO project “Strengthening Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) Policy in Asia,” implemented in partnership with the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency (KoSEA) and supported by the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labour (MOEL).
