ILO Constituents from Uzbekistan Trained at the Training Center in Turin
With the ILO support, representatives of tripartite constituents from Uzbekistan took part in the training course “Employment Academy for Design and Implementation of National Employment Policies and Programmes” organized at the ILO International Training Center in Turin from May 6 to 17, 2019.

The Academy’s main purpose was to build the participants’ potential to design and implement policies and programmes addressing the main employment challenges in their countries.
Plenary meetings were devoted to discussions of national employment policies to be designed, inclusive labour markets, the role of social dialogue in addressing employment problems, promotion of private enterprise. Moreover, subject-specific courses were organised in such areas as diagnostic tools for labour market analysis, assessment of the impact of public policies and programmes on employment, formalization of informal economy, decent work for youth, active labour market policies and the role of employment services.
As was noted in the course of discussions, a high percentage of working age population gives Uzbekistan a so-called “demographic window of economic opportunities”, a favourable demographic situation with the minimum social burden on the government to pay old-age pensions. However, not all countries are able to draw practical advantages from the demographic situation. In order to identify all opportunities and conditions enabling to use this “window”, Uzbekistan needs to build and develop the skills of those responsible for the design of national employment policies.
Apart from developing the participants’ knowledge and skills, the Academy also contributed to creating professional communities and networks which open up opportunities for future cooperation between the training course participants and their respective agencies and institutions.
Upon completion of the course, the participants were awarded training certificates issued by the ILO International Training Center in Turin.
