ILO News (Addis Ababa): ILO highlighted its commitment to support the reintegration effort of Ethiopian migrant returnees during a ceremony where Ethiopian Employers Federation (EEF) and Ethiopian Women Entrepreneurs Association (EWMA) announced their joining hands to work together to contribute to the same goal.
Mr. George Okutho, Director of the ILO Country Office – Addis Ababa, during his speech as a guest of honor, outlined the support that ILO has been providing to help returnees become self-employed through providing indivdualised reintegration assistance in partnership with EU:
Established a dedicated loan fund worth ETB 60 million, together with three regional micro finance institutions (ACSI, DECSI and OCSSCO) benefitting around 2,000 returnees who have been supported in wage employment, while around 2500 have established their own businesses.
More than 12,000 returnees have been supported through training on motivational skills and entrepreneurship;
More than 200 TVET (technical and vocational education and training ) teachers have been trained to provide training for returnees;
5000 returnees have been trained in different vocational skills;
While encouraging other companies to join hands with the Ethiopian Government in the support of the re-integration effort, he once again confirmed ILO’s commitment to work alongside EEF and EMWA to help as many returnees as possible settle back in their home country.
ILO together with Amhara, Tigray and Oromia national regional state provided a seven days entrepreneurship and motivational training for 9,330 returnees

As part of a broader programme on improving labour migration management in Ethiopia, ILO works to help returnee migrants settle back in their old life by providing individualized and rights based reintegration assistance to returnees with a particular focus on vulnerable women and girls.
