ILO, China and EU continue collaboration in promoting universal social protection in China

BEIJING (ILO News) –The International Labour Office (ILO) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS) of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the implementation of the Project on Improving China’s Institutional Capacity towards Universal Social Protection (Phase 2) on 18 January 2024 in Beijing. The Project is funded by the European Union (EU).

Mr. LI Zhong, Vice Minister of MOHRSS and Mr. Jorge TOLEDO, Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to China, witnessed the signing of the MOU. ILO, China and EU demonstrated strong commitment to continue joint efforts in promoting universal social protection in China, building on the successful partnerships in the Project Phase 1 (2019-2022).

Following the signing ceremony, the Project organized the first meeting of its Steering Committee (PSC) to review the project progress in 2023 and discuss and endorse the work plan for 2024. Besides the MOHRSS, the EU and the ILO, PSC members also include representatives from All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) and China Enterprise Confederation (CEC). The MOHRSS and the EU shared social security policy developments in China and the EU respectively at the meeting.
