ILO Beijing and Wenzhou Disabled Persons' Federation establish strategic partnership to enhance inclusive employment for people with disabilities

China (ILO NEWS) – 25 November, 2024 – The International Labour Organization (ILO) Beijing Office and the Wenzhou Disabled Persons' Federation (Wenzhou DPF) have officially embarked on a strategic partnership designed to foster a supportive and accessible work environment where individuals with disabilities can fully realize their potential and make contributions in the workplace.

During the official ceremony, Vice Mayor of Wenzhou City, Zhang Yueying, expressed her congratulations on the initiation of this pivotal partnership. She underscored the profound importance of promoting employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, stating, "We must collectively strive to optimize the environment . This strategic alliance between the ILO and the Wenzhou Disabled Persons' Federation marks a crucial advancement in achieving this objective. It reinforces our dedication to inclusivity and diversity and pioneers new pathways for people with disabilities to actively engage in society and unlock their full potential."

Chang-Hee Lee, Director of the ILO Office for China and Mongolia, underscored the significance of dismantling social barriers in tackling disability issues. He emphasized, "Impairments, while certainly posing challenges, are often overshadowed by the more profound obstacles stemming from societal factors. The ILO firmly believes that, with the right skills and experience, individuals with disabilities can excel in any profession, akin to those without disabilities."

The collaboration between the ILO and Wenzhou DPF is centred on addressing the employment, entrepreneurship, and skill acquisition challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in the digital age labor market.
