A high-level delegation of the ILO led by Aeneas C. Chuma, Regional Director for Africa, will take part in the Federation of West African Employers Association’s General Assembly in Cabo Verde.
ABIDJAN/ADDIS ABABA/DAKAR/PRAIA (ILO News) – A senior delegation of the International Labour Organization (ILO) will attend the General Assembly of the Federation of West African Employers Association (FOPAO/FWAEA) focused on youth employment from 3 to 4 March 2016 in Praia, Cabo Verde.
Aeneas Chapinga Chuma, ILO Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa, will address the opening of the Ordinary session of the General Assembly (GA) on 4 March.
Mr Chuma, who is accompanied by Francois Murangira and Dramane Haidara, ILO Directors based respectively in Dakar (Senegal) and Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire) is set to meet the highest authorities of Cabo Verde, including President Jorge Carlos Fonseca, as well as the tripartite constituents of the country.
This year’s general assembly, held for the first time in Praia, will outline Africa’s top priority under the theme “Youth Employment in West Africa” with the aim of exploring challenges and opportunities to respond efficiently to the current crisis.
West African countries have recently redoubled their efforts in policy awareness of interventions for youth employment but some of these states have had many crises affecting the youth. This requires unique and innovative strategic approaches in dealing with the crisis.
Under the subtheme “What policy for youth employment in West Africa?”, Dramane Haidara will address the General Assembly (GA) by sharing ILO’s best practices, practical tools and latest cutting-edge research on 4 March.
The FOPAO/FWAEA annual event, chaired by Jean Kacou Diagou, brings together delegates from employers' organizations of the fifteen ECOWAS countries and Mauritania (observer) to discuss world of work issues and policy responses.
