ILO and NECA partner to advance “Start and Improve Your Business” in Nigeria
The ILO and the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) agreed to boost the use of Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) program for youth empowerment and job creation.

ABUJA (ILO News) - The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) called for the efficient use of ILO’s Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) to create decent jobs for Nigerians, especially the youth.
The joint call was made on Monday 10 August 2015 when a team of four SIYB Master Trainers and members of NECA paid a courtesy call on the ILO.
“The ILO has many training packages suitable for use in equipping young Nigerians with the necessary skills to start and operate their own business which could in turn create decent jobs”, Dennis Zulu, Officer-In-Charge of the ILO Country Office, Abuja said.
Receiving the SIYB Master Trainers, , Mr. Mr Zulu observed that young Nigerians were enthusiastic about starting businesses and what they needed was to be nurtured through training, access to business development services and finance.
He congratulated the SIYB Master Trainers on their certification as Master Trainers and urged them to be good ambassadors of the ILO by upholding the ILO standards on the SIYB training.
In his response, the President of the SIYB Master Trainers in Nigeria, Mr Noruwa Edokpolo thanked the ILO for supporting their training and for empowering them to become SIYB Master Trainers. He concurred that ILO has fantastic training packages that could be used to empower Nigerians to create sustainable businesses.
The Chairperson requested additional support from the ILO for further training and certification on Know About Business (KAB) and other ILO training packages. He also solicited the assistance of the ILO Country Office, Abuja to print the SIYB manuals in Nigeria to avoid delays , copyright’s infringement and to ensure that SIYB standards are maintained in Nigeria.
Mr. Noruwa Edokpolo was accompanied by Mrs. Fayo Williams, Mrs. Kemisola Jiboye, Mrs. Adebimpe Opegbemi and Mrs Adenike A. Ajala.
