ANTALYA – The International Labour Organization (ILO) and General Directorate for International Labour Force (UIGM) of Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services held a two-day coordination workshop on employment of Syrians under temporary protection.
The thematic workshop in Antalya informed local stakeholders on the legislation on employment of Syrians, and discussesed associated local problems. The workshop aimed to bring together agencies and organisations, at central and local level, active in formulating and implementing employment and vocational training policies, share experience, and improve alignment of legislation with local practice. Presenting information on the program, Nejat Kocabay, ILO Senior Programme Manager, said: “Labour market access by Syrians under temporary protection is governed by legislative and administrative regulations introduced in recent years. It is very important to inform local stakeholders on such legislation and discuss associated local problems. In that line, we invited the members of Provincial Employment and Vocational Training Boards (PEVTB) from Adana, Bursa, Hatay and Konya as well as the relevant central units of the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services; and intended to form a platform for productive discussion.”
The workshop was organised under the “Opportunities for Lives Project” implemented by the ILO Office for Turkey. Under the full title of “Job Creation and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Syrians under Temporary Protection and Host Communities in Turkey”, the Project is implemented by ILO, financed by the European Union, and coordinated by the General Directorate for International Labour Force (UIGM) of Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services. With certain activities implemented by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Project aims to economically and socially empower Syrians under temporary protection and host communities.
