ILO and Comoros to strengthen strategic cooperation

Moroni (ILO News) – The ILO Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa, Aeneas C. Chuma arrived in Moroni, Comoros to officially sign the 2015-2019 Decent Work Country Program (DWCP) focusing on employment and social protection.

Together with the tripartite constituents of Comoros, Mr. Chuma will sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 4 May to promote and ensure governance of employment as well as to extend social protection in the Comoros.

This new DWCP is aligned with national priorities defined in the "Strategy for Accelerated Growth and Sustainable Development (SCA2D)" covering the period 2015-2019, and is consistent with the United Nations Development Framework (UNDAF 2015-2019).

The head of the ILO in Africa will also meet the highest authorities of the country, including the President of the Republic, the President of the National Assembly, and key members of the Government and officials of employers and workers organizations.

From 02-05 May 2015, Aeneas Chapinga CHUMA is on official visit – the first for the Comoros - to support efforts demonstrated by Comorian constituents to promote work decent in the country. Comoros is committed to placing employment at the heart of its development policies and programs and the fight against poverty.
