ILO and AfDB launch Employment Impact Assessment of Luangwa-Mwami Road
LUSAKA (ILO News) - On 18 June 2024, the International Organization Organization (ILO) through European Union (EU) funded STRENTHEN2 Project in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) officially launched the Employment Impact Assessment report of Luangwa-Mwami Road, part of the interregional Nacala Corridor project, Zambia. The launch was graced by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Brenda Mwika Tambatamba (MP).

Speaking at the event, Ms. Tambatamba said the report would provide basic information for evidence-based formulation of employment and labour market policies in the country.
“I applaud the International Labour Organization and the African Development Bank for this should now be a norm for a country that seeks to create employment through public investments,” added Hon Tambatamba.
She further called upon ILO and AfDB to support the country in developing tools that could be used in estimating employment impacts of policies, particularly in the key sectors of the economy such as mining, agriculture, energy, tourism and manufacturing.
Speaking at the same event, ILO Country Office Director for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique Mr Wellington Chibebe said the ILO stands ready to support Zambia’s economic development and job creation through STRENGTHEN2 project using Employment Impact assessment of the Nacala Road Corridor project in Zambia.
The assessment of the Nacala Road Corridor project was jointly undertaken by the African Development Bank and the ILO under the EU-funded STRENGTHEN2 project.
