ILO’s Head for Africa on official visit in Comoros and Madagascar
A first official visit from 2-8 May to Comoros and Madagascar to strengthen the collaboration between the ILO and its tripartite constituents through the signing of new Decent Wok Country Programmes.

From 02-05 May, Mr Chuma will travel to Moroni for a first official visit to the archipelago of the Comoros. During his visit, he will meet the President of the Republic, the Speaker of the House and key members of the Government, as well as members of representative of employers’ and workers’ organizations.
The ILO senior executive and the President will sign on 04 May a Decent Work Country Programme (DWCPs), covering the period 2015-2019, with two priorities: (1) Promotion and governance of employment - (2). Strengthening and extending social protection.
Through this mission, Mr. CHUMA hears witness to the support of the ILO in efforts mobilized by the tripartite constituents Comoros to promote decent work in the country. They intend to highlight the importance of this new program by organizing 4 May 2015 an official adoption ceremony of the DWCP with the participation of the President of the Republic.
Aeneas Chuma will then visit Antananarivo in Madagascar from 5 to 8 May 2015 for the signing of the Decent Work Country Program for 2015-2019.
Bilateral meetings with the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the Ministers for Labour, Employment and Foreign Affairs as well the social partners have been scheduled.
On May 7, the Memorandum of Understanding on DWCP Madagascar for 2015-2019 will be jointly signed by the Prime Minister of Madagascar, Air Brigadier General Jean Ravelonarivo; the President of the Association of Enterprises of Madagascar and the General Coordinator of the Conference of Madagascar Workers and Aeneas Chapinga Chuma.
The ILO Regional Director for Africa will also sign the Code of Conduct on the Fight against Sexual Exploitation of Children for Commercial (CSEC) and against Sex Tourism Involving Children (CST) in Madagascar, together with the Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Board of the National Tourist Office and the representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
After the signing ceremony, a press conference will be held at the Hotel Colbert, Salon Antaninarenina at 10:30 am with the ILO Assistant Director-General of the ILO and Regional Director for Africa.
Mr Chuma will then proceed to Antsirabe to get a first-hand assessment of the activities of the ILO in the field and to chair the official ceremony of starter kits distribution and piglets to 40 children removed from domestic work, trained and certified in agricultural techniques by the ILO / PAMODEC project.
Madagascar is a Member of the ILO since 1960 and home to the ILO Area Office for 40 years.
