Head of ILO Africa to visit Rwanda

ADDIS ABABA (ILO News) – ILO’s Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Africa, Aeneas C. Chuma is on mission in Rwanda from 25-26 May 2015 to participate to the Regional Employment Forum, and to intensify efforts towards strategic partnership with the East African country.

In Kigali, Mr Chuma will lead the ILO Delegation attending the National Employment Forum, including Alexio Musindo, ILO Director for East Africa.

During his visit, he will then meet with H. E. Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi, Hon Judith Uwizeye, Minister of Public Service and Labour, other government officials, the social partners of Rwanda and the UN Resident Coordinator Lamin M. Manneh.

The objective of the official mission is to review existing efforts towards sustainable development and to lay the groundwork for a renewed strategic cooperation between the ILO and Rwanda. Like most African countries, Rwanda has a growing number of youth joining the labour market and employment has been underlined as one of the four thematic areas embedded in the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy.


The Ministry of Public Service and Labour (MIFOTRA) in collaboration with different stakeholders is organizing an Employment Forum around the Theme of "Employment Promotion for National Development" which will bring together representatives of Government Institutions, Private Institutions, Civil Society, International Organisations and Trade Unions.

Rwanda, which has been an ILO Member States for more than 50 years, has ratified 28 Conventions including the eight core conventions.
