Guy Ryder, Director-General of ILO, visits India

Guy Ryder, the Director-General of International Labour Organization, is visiting India from the 5 to 9 of July 2016. He will be meeting Honourable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya and Secretary of Labour and Employment, Shankar Aggarwal. The Director-General will also have meetings with ILO’s social partners and line Ministries.

On July 6, the DG will be on a field-visit to the Domestic Workers’ Skills Training Centre at Tughlakabad Institutional area. He will also have an informal interaction with the domestic workers at their community in Rangpuri Pahari. The interaction is aimed at sharing experiences on their working conditions, challenges, successes through unionization, their future action plan and aspirations. On July 7, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will hold a policy dialogue on "Promoting Inclusive, Quality and Job-Rich Economic Growth in Emerging Economies". State government officials, line ministries and academia will be joining the dialogue.

India, a founding member of the ILO, is a major player in the global economy. The DG during his tour will discuss on global practices, labour issues and ILO’s mandate on decent work for all. His visit will also be focusing on ILO’s centenary initiative —“Future of Work”. The future of work initiative is intended to address the needs and challenges in the world of work today, including technological changes, governance, labour market trends, and the organization of work and production. A national tripartite dialogue on "Future of Work- Challenges and Opportunities" will take place on July 8 at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi.
