Global SCORE4Climate workshop to unlock innovative green practices in SMEs

In an effort to bolster sustainable practices within small and medium enterprises (SMEs), a specialized Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on the new SCORE4Climate training module was organized from November 20th to 24th, 2023. This online training introduced key concepts and showcased practical tools and innovative solutions aimed at enhancing resource efficiency, cleaner production and circularity.

From over 170 applications, 59 SCORE trainers representing 21 countries were chosen to attend this intensive four-day workshop. Led by Elisabeth Natalia, International SCORE Expert Trainer from Indonesia and Shafqat Ullah, Director of the Cleaner Production Institute in Pakistan, the primary objective was to strengthen the capacity of the ILO SCORE Trainer Network related to environmental sustainability. This means equipping them to facilitate improvement initiatives in SMEs, focussing on solutions that can be readily implemented as well as supporting SMEs in considering more sophisticated solutions such as transitioning to renewable energy solutions, establishing long-term environmental objectives, and implementing an Environmental Management System.

Participating in the SCORE4Climate ToT has been a transformative journey. Its comprehensive curriculum coupled with hands-on learning has helped me gain in-depth knowledge on resource efficiency and circular practices within enterprises. I’m confident that this will not only enhance operational efficiency but also contribute to a sustainable future for the enterprises.

Throughout the week, workshop participants were not merely passive recipients of knowledge. They engaged actively, deepening their understanding of the subject to adapt and implement successful SCORE Trainings in their countries. To validate their learnings, participants were asked to complete a quiz at the end of each session, as well as submit an assignment at the end of the workshop.

In line with the ILO SCORE Programme’s commitment to supporting its trainers in their SCORE journeys, participants were invited to join a tailored follow-up session that provided a deeper exploration of specific topics covered and addressed challenges faced during the week. This workshop is one among several activities hosted by the ILO SCORE Programme, underscoring the importance of supporting SMEs in transitioning towards a circular economy and net-zero economy.

SCORE Training is a modular training package and methodology developed by the ILO SCORE Programme. The Training is used to improve productivity, employee-manager cooperation, and working conditions within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
