Ghana sets up a committee to oversee the national employment policy

Accra (ILO News) - The Interim National Employment Coordinating Committee (INECC) of Ghana held a meeting on Friday 4 March 2016 to validate the roadmap for the implementation of the national employment policy (NEP).

The INECC is composed of members of the Government and line Ministries, Social Partners and other major stakeholders. The Committee is jointly chaired by the Ministry of Employment and the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). It should become a National Employment Coordination Council after legal formalities.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) was represented in the Meeting by Dennis Zulu, Director for CO Abuja, Tariq Haq, ILO Employment Specialist based in Geneva, Paul Comyn, Senior Skills Specialist at ILO Geneva and Akua Asumadu, ILO Chief Technical Adviser based in Accra.

In his remarks, Mr Zulu commended the INCEC for the work achieved so far and assured the Committee of ILO’s continued support towards the implementation of the NEP. He called for concerted efforts amongst the stakeholders towards the mobilisation of resources for the implementation of the Ghana’s employment policy.

Ghana’s first ever National Employment Policy was launched in April 2015 by President Mahama in the presence of the ILO Director General, Guy Ryder and ILO’s Regional Director for Africa, Aeneas Chuma.
