Fostering entrepreneurship education in Nigeria
Nigeria to integrate ILO’s Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Program into NYSC curriculum to develop entrepreneurial skills for young women and men.

ABUJA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of Nigeria agreed to continue to sustain their partnership to develop entrepreneurial skills of young men and women of Nigeria to boost their employment opportunities.
The Director of the ILO Abuja Country Office, Mr Dennis Zulu met with a delegation from the NYSC led by the recently appointed Director of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Department (SAED), Barr. Mrs Theresa Anosike to discuss ongoing programs and projects between the ILO and NYSC, particularly regarding the institutionalization of the use of the ILO Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) curriculum in NYSC training programs.
Mr Zulu informed the delegation of ILO’s commitment to working with the NYSC to tackle the dearth of skills and youth unemployment issues in Nigeria.
“Adding skills development to the NYSC component provides a key entry point for entrepreneurship development”, Zulu said. The ILO will continue to support the NYSC while headway was already being made with regard to conducting the Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop to facilitate the certification of NYSC officials as Master Trainers who will then be used to train NYSC members on SIYB.
In response, Mrs Anosike expressed gratitude for ILO’S consistent support and capacity building, and the hope for continued partnership between both organisations as ILO support has improved performance. She stated that the NYSC is glad to be moving forward with the ToT training so as to extend the program’s reach which can be achieved by having certified NYSC staff trainers for enterprise development.
The ILO Director reiterated that the NYSC is integral to youth employment initiatives which through their work across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). Dennis Zulu assured the delegates that the ILO is ready to work with NYSC and its partners on capacity building and providing support to ensure initiatives geared towards increasing access to employment opportunities to Nigerians, especially the youths have sustainable impact.
