First Working Group on Trafficking in Persons: Peruvian judges and prosecutors join efforts to combat trafficking

Lima - In a joint effort to combat trafficking in persons, the First Working Group on Trafficking in Persons was developed, which brought together judges and prosecutors from the court districts of Lima, North Lima, South Lima, East Lima, Ventanilla and Callao.

The Working Group contributes with coordinated inter-institutional efforts to effectively address trafficking and was promoted by the Gender and Justice Commission of the Judiciary, the National Coordination of Specialized Prosecution Offices for Trafficking of the Public Ministry, the ILO and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

At this first meeting, experts such as Dr. Ivan Guerrero, Dr. Yvan Montoya and Dr. Raquel Limay shared tools, approaches and best practices to enrich the discussion and share strategies for the investigation, prosecution and punishment of trafficking.

“Coordinated actions among these institutions are essential to combat trafficking in persons and other forms of modern slavery, which constitute a severe violation of human dignity,” recalled Julio Rodriguez, ILO expert in criminal prosecution and trafficking in persons.
