Financing a just transition - Sectoral insights for construction and building materials

The construction and building materials sector is one of the most carbon-intensive globally, and demand is only growing due to rapid urbanization and infrastructure needs. While a low-carbon transition in this sector is essential, how can it be ensured that it's also a just transition, one that advances decent work and considers the social impacts on workers, communities, and businesses while driving decarbonization?

This webinar, co-organized by the ILO's Social Finance Programme, United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), and Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), discussed these matters with key experts from the sector. It was a great opportunity to share and raise awareness about the ILO conclusions and recommendations for the promotion of decent work and a just transition in the building materials industry, including cement.

The event was very well attended and counted with representatives from UNEP, as well as a MNE in the sector and a speaker from the financial sector.

The session was deemed by participants as both insightful and engaging, with very positive feedback being received. More than 55 participants joined live representing a range of institutions across the financial sector, international organizations, and academia.
