The Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) and the ILO fight against child labour in Egypt
raise awareness of private sector partners FEI and ILO support them to be in better compliance with International Labour Standards to combat child labour in Egypt

In the framework of implementing its role to combat child labour in Egypt, the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), Egypt’s largest employers’ organization, collaborated with the ILO project “Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child labour in Africa” (ACCEL Africa), to develop an “Employers and Child Employment” booklet.
ACCEL Africa is a Dutch funded regional project focusing on the Cotton Supply Chain in Egypt and seeks to improve and enforce policy, legal and institutional frameworks to address child labour and institutionalize innovative and evidence-based solutions addressing the root-causes of child labour.
This awareness booklet is part of the FEI`s efforts to raise awareness and enhance compliance with international labour standards mandated in “the National Action Plan for Combating the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Egypt and Supporting Family (2018 – 2025)”.
This booklet is designed to provide clarity for enterprises on what constitutes combating child labour to protect employers and raise their awareness from unknowingly engaging in child labour practices and how to address it at the enterprise level to achieve better levels of compliance that increase access to boost export opportunities.
The booklet contains simplified information on the definition of child labour vs. child work, what is considered worst forms of child labour, legal consideration of child employment and apprenticeship, patterns of child employment and apprenticeship at enterprise level. Furthermore, child labour impact on businesses, expected procedures from employers to address child labour according to ILO IOE manual of combating child labour and relevant national and international labour standards and compliance points.
