The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and ILO advance implementation of the Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan
As part of efforts to contribute to the achievement of decent, productive and freely chosen employment for young women and men in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs convened a meeting of the National Youth Employment Action Committee towards the development of the NIYEAP Implementation Roadmap and Monitoring and Evaluation Plan.

Abuja (ILO News): Following the launch of the Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan (NIYEAP) by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development on 14 September 2021, the National Youth Employment Action Committee convened its first meeting under the revised Action Plan to advance the development of an Implementation Roadmap for the period 2021 to 2024 and a corresponding Monitoring and Evaluation Plan.
The two-day event had in attendance focal persons representing several Ministries and Agencies of Government responsible for youth employment programme development and implementation in Nigeria, as well as representative from other key stakeholders including social partners, civil society and youth organisations.
In her opening remarks, the representative of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development reiterated the commitment of the Ministry to collaborate with key stakeholders towards a results driven implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the NIYEAP 2021-2024.
On day one of the meeting, participants developed inputs for the NIYEAP implementation roadmap 2021-2024, working in four groups around strategic lines of action, i.e. Employability, Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Equality and rights. These inputs will guide the implementation of the NIYEAP across all stakeholders.
Deliberations on the second day of the meeting centred on frameworks for project development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation especially as relates to interventions that will be rolled out under the strategic lines of action of the NIYEAP 2021-2014. The ILO National Project Officer led participants through the process for integrating monitoring and evaluation plans in the implementation of projects under the NIYEAP.
Other stakeholders present at the meeting included representatives of the Federal Ministries of Labour and Employment, Science and Technology, Communication and Digital Economy, Information and Culture, Industry and Trade and Investment; Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association; the Nigeria Economic Summit Group; the National Bureau of Statistics, National Youth Service Corps and a host of other agencies and non-state actors who made valuable inputs in the deliberations over the two days.
The meeting ended with all stakeholders pledging to adopt a singular approach for the implementation and monitoring and evaluation of the NIYEAP.
