Employment policy in the spotlight
On April 8, a subregional seminar on the role of trade unions in making national employment policy in the New Independent States started its work in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana.

The event was organized by the ILO and the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The first day of the five-day seminar focused on national employment policy and trade unions’ role in creating national employment programmes. Experts of the ILO and the Pan-European Regional Council of the International Trade Union Confederation made reports on the issue.
“Despite unstable global economic situation Kazakhstan managed to achieve significant results in socio-economic development thanks to the clearly set priorities,” Acting President of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Aituganov said. “Programmes providing jobs for the population played a key role in this.”
In particular, he mentioned the Employment Roadmap 2020 that embraced 551,000 low-income, unemployed and self-employed people. Moreover, around 770 projects under the state programme boosting Kazakhstan’s industrial and innovation development created 75,000 jobs.
